The Sacred Valley Peru – Inca Trail To Machu Picchu 3D/2N offers an unforgettable adventure. We will explore the Sacred Valley and Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, witnessing Andean landscapes filled with color and history. We will walk along ancient paths that reveal the ingenuity of the Inca civilization. Every step will bring us closer to understanding their culture and traditions.

During the Inca Trail Machu Picchu journey, we will hike through valleys, rivers, and terraced hills. We will cover approximately 16 km on the trail, surrounded by breathtaking mountains. Along the way, we will visit small villages and ancient ruins that tell stories of the past. We will stop often to capture photographs and breathe in the fresh highland air.

At Machu Picchu and Sacred Valley, we will explore the legendary citadel with a professional guide. We will climb terraces and pathways, discovering temples, plazas, and intricate stonework. We will feel the energy of this ancient city and understand its spiritual importance. Every moment will provide awe-inspiring views of the surrounding mountains and the Urubamba River below.

 Itinerary   

Day 1Cusco – Sacred Valley – Ollantaytambo

We will meet at our Cusco hotel at 7:00 AM. and travel into the Sacred Valley, a region of fertile landscapes and rich history. Today, we will choose between two scenic routes to Ollantaytambo, each offering a unique cultural experience. We will explore ancient ruins, vibrant markets, and local traditions while enjoying breathtaking Andean scenery. Dinner and overnight stay will be at a comfortable 3-star hotel in Ollantaytambo.

Option A: Pisac and Textile Culture

We will visit Awana Cancha to see alpacas, llamas, vicuñas, and guanacos, while learning about ancient weaving techniques. Next, we will explore Pisac Archaeological Complex, famous for its extensive agricultural terraces. We will stroll through the lively artisan market and savor a buffet lunch in Urubamba. The day ends at the Ollantaytambo fortress, a living Inca town still inhabited today.

Option B: Chinchero, Moray, and Maras Salt Mines

We will start at Chinchero, visiting the colonial church and watching local weavers dye textiles naturally. We will continue to Moray, an Inca agricultural laboratory of circular terraces, then see the stunning salt pools of Maras. We will end at Ollantaytambo fortress, marveling at its history and architecture.

Day 2Ollantaytambo (Km 104) – Wiñaywayna – Sun Gate – Machu Picchu

Early in the morning, we will take a train from Ollantaytambo to Km 104, the Inca Trail starting point. After crossing the Urubamba River via a suspension bridge, we will visit Chachabamba Archaeological Site (2,170 meters above sea level). We will hike through the cloud forest, enjoying native orchids, birds, and small waterfalls along the trail.After approximately three hours, we will arrive at Wiñay Wayna, a spectacular Inca site with terraces and breathtaking valley views. We will have a box lunch here and explore the ruins in detail. The final stretch leads to Inti Punku, the Sun Gate, where we will see our first panoramic view of Machu Picchu. Descending by bus to Aguas Calientes, we will enjoy dinner and spend the night at a 3-star hotel.

Day 2 Statistics:

  • Distance hiked: 16 km (Inca Trail segment)
  • Highest altitude: 2,720 meters above sea level (Sun Gate)
  • Lowest altitude: 2,170 meters above sea level  (Chachabamba)
  • Difficulty: Moderate trekking with inclines and uneven terrain

Day 3Machu Picchu – Cusco

We will take one of the first buses to Machu Picchu for sunrise, witnessing the ancient citadel glow in the early light. We will have a guided tour of approximately 2.5 hours, visiting the Temple of the Sun, Main Plaza, Intihuatana, Temple of the Condor, and residential areas. We will learn about Inca engineering, astronomy, and daily life.

After the guided tour, we will have free time to explore independently or climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain (optional, extra cost). In the afternoon, we will descend to Aguas Calientes for lunch (not included), then take the train to Ollantaytambo or Poroy. Finally, private transportation will return us to our Cusco hotel, concluding the tour.

Day 3 Statistics:

  • Distance traveled: 12 km (walking in Machu Picchu)
  • Highest altitude: 2,430 meters above sea level (Machu Picchu)
