Embark on a captivating journey with Machu Picchu Peru Trek to Humantay Lake hike, a hidden gem nestled in the Andes. This day tour offers an immersive experience into Peru’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.

We will begin our adventure early in the morning, departing from Cusco and traversing scenic landscapes. Our journey will take us through picturesque valleys and traditional Andean villages, providing glimpses into local life. As we approach the trailhead, we will be greeted by the majestic presence of the Humantay and Salkantay mountains.

Itinerary

 

Day 1Humantay Lake Peru – Humantay Lake Day Hike From Cusco Itinerary

We will begin our journey with a 4:30 AM pick-up from your hotel in Cusco. Our private vehicle will take us through picturesque Andean landscapes and traditional villages toward Mollepata, approximately 100 kilometers away. Along the way, we will enjoy breathtaking mountain views and morning scenery. This drive will take about 3 hours, giving us plenty of time to appreciate the surroundings.

Upon arrival in Mollepata, we will stop for a hearty breakfast at a local restaurant. This meal will provide energy for the upcoming hike. After breakfast, we will continue our journey to Soraypampa, the starting point of our hike.

Soraypampa sits at an altitude of 3,850 meters above sea level and offers stunning views of surrounding peaks. We will take a short break to acclimatize before beginning our hike to Humantay Lake. The trail is approximately 3.5 kilometers one way, with an elevation gain of about 350 meters above sea level. The hike will take 1.5 to 2 hours depending on our pace, and we will enjoy alpine meadows and snow-capped mountains along the way.

Upon reaching Humantay Lake, we will be rewarded with its striking turquoise waters set against towering mountains. The lake sits at an altitude of 4,200 meters above sea level. We will have time to rest, take photographs, and enjoy the serene atmosphere. Our guide will share insights about the lake’s geological and cultural significance, enhancing our understanding of this natural wonder.

After spending time at Humantay Lake, we will descend back to Soraypampa, retracing our steps along the scenic trail. The return hike will take about 1 to 1.5 hours. Once in Soraypampa, we will board our vehicle and drive to Mollepata for a traditional Peruvian lunch. We will enjoy regional specialties while reflecting on the day’s adventure.

Following lunch, we will begin our return journey to Cusco, covering approximately 100 kilometers in about 3 hours. We will arrive in Cusco in the late afternoon, concluding our Humantay Lake Day Tour. This itinerary combines breathtaking natural landscapes, cultural immersion, and moderate physical activity, providing a memorable Andean experience.
