 Itinerary

Day 1Puno – Uros Floating Islands – Amantaní Island

We will start our 2-day tour early in the morning from Puno city. At 7:40 A.M, we will pick you up from your hotel and head to the main port. At 8:00 A.M., we will begin our journey across Lake Titicaca by boat, enjoying the fresh morning breeze. Our first stop will be the famous Uros Floating Islands, located just 7 km from Puno.

We will meet the Uros people, known for their ancient culture and deep connection with the lake. They will show us how they build their islands using totora reeds and how they live in harmony with nature. We will have time to walk on the floating surface, take photos, and learn about their traditions and daily life. This visit will offer us a rare glimpse into one of the oldest living cultures in South America.

After about 45 minutes, we will continue our journey toward the island of Amantani. The boat ride will take approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, crossing the blue waters of Lake Titicaca. As we approach the island, we will see terraced hills and small adobe houses surrounded by potato and quinoa fields. Upon arrival, local families will welcome us warmly and guide us to our homestays for lunch.

We will enjoy a traditional meal prepared with local ingredients such as quinoa soup, potatoes, and fresh vegetables. In the afternoon, we will hike to the sacred temples of Pachatata and Pachamama, located at the highest point of the island at 4,150 meters. From here, we will admire panoramic views of Lake Titicaca and even the snowcapped peaks of Bolivia. As the sun sets, we will watch a spectacular play of colors over the water.

In the evening, we will return to our host family’s home for dinner. At night, we will join a cultural dance organized by the local community. We will wear traditional clothes and share music, laughter, and stories with our hosts. It will be an unforgettable moment filled with warmth and authenticity.

Day 2Amantaní Island – Taquile Island – Puno

We will start the day early with a traditional breakfast prepared by our host family. After saying goodbye to our kind hosts, we will continue our Amantani Islands Tour toward Taquile Island. The boat ride will take around 1 hour, allowing us to enjoy the peaceful views of Lake Titicaca. The clear sky and calm waters will create a perfect morning atmosphere.

Upon arrival at Taquile Island, we will walk along ancient stone paths surrounded by beautiful terraced fields. The island of Taquile stands at an average altitude of 3,950 meters (12,959 feet). The community follows a unique rotating system, where families take turns managing tourism and agriculture. We will visit the main square and meet local artisans, known for their remarkable textile art recognized by UNESCO.

We will learn about their traditions, colorful clothing, and symbolic designs representing family and community life. We will also climb the 550 steps leading to the central plaza, where we will have one of the best panoramic views of Lake Titicaca. Here, we will enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, tasting delicious trout and potatoes. The peaceful environment and the view of the lake will make this meal a memorable moment.

After lunch, we will start our return journey to Puno at around 1:30 p.m. The boat ride will take approximately 2 hours and offer stunning views of the surrounding islands. We will arrive back in Puno around 3:20 p.m., marking the end of our 2-day cultural and natural adventure. This experience will stay with us forever as a meaningful connection to the Andean world.

Staying overnight on Amantani Island was truly one of the most meaningful experiences of my entire trip. The local family welcomed us into their home with so much warmth and kindness. Sharing meals, learning about their traditions, and even participating in a small community celebration made me feel connected in a very special way.
