This ATV Rainbow Mountain Peru and Red Valley Full Day is one of the most vibrant day tours in the Cusco region, combining an exciting ATV tour with the natural beauty of the colored mountains. We will begin the day with a calm drive through small Andean villages and open valleys. The morning light reveals the first signs of the Peruvian Andes, offering clear views and fresh air far above sea level. It is the perfect warm-up before reaching the base for our ATV ride at high altitude.

The route toward Rainbow Mountain Vinicunca starts with a fun and easy ATV stretch across wide plains. We will follow open trails surrounded by vibrant colors and rolling hills that shift between reds, greens, yellows, and blues. This part of the adventure adds a boost of adrenaline before we begin the short Rainbow Mountain hike, a steady walk that leads to the famous viewpoint. Visiting Rainbow Mountain gives us a full panorama of its bright stripes and the breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks.

After enjoying the summit of Rainbow Mountain, we will continue toward the striking Red Valley. The scenery changes completely as deep red slopes and empty high-altitude landscapes open before us. The mix of hiking and ATV riding lets us explore quiet corners of the Andes and experience one of the most unusual landscapes near Cusco Peru. The colors and silence make this area feel almost unreal.

On the return, we will ride back on our ATVs toward the base and then travel through local highland villages. A simple Andean meal will give us a taste of daily life far above typical altitudes visited in places like Machu Picchu. The afternoon drive back to Cusco feels peaceful after a full day outdoors. This day trip is ideal for travelers who love nature, vibrant scenery, and an exciting ATV experience in the heart of the Peruvian Andes.

 Itinerary

Day 1ATV Ausangate Mountain Tour

We will begin the day with an early hotel pickup in Cusco around 4:00 A.M. The city will feel quiet, and the first light will reveal the outline of the Andes. We will drive toward Cusipata in comfortable transportation. The ride will take about one hour and thirty minutes, passing calm villages, open fields, and long stretches of mountain road.

We will stop in Cusipata for a warm Andean breakfast. The food will help us prepare for the high altitudes ahead. After eating, we will continue for another hour until we reach the Río Rojo ATV base. The red hills of the valley will appear brighter as the sun rises.

At the base, we will receive a clear safety briefing and a short practice session with the ATVs. The terrain will feel exciting but manageable for all experience levels. Once ready, we will begin riding through the Red Valley for about forty to forty-five minutes. The scenery will shift between deep red slopes, open plains, and herds of llamas and alpacas.

We will leave the ATVs at the parking area and begin our hike toward Rainbow Mountain. The trail will take around thirty five minutes at a steady and relaxed pace. The air will feel thinner as we climb higher, but the views will grow wider with every step. The colors of Vinicunca will appear stronger as we approach the viewpoint.

We will reach Rainbow Mountain at more than 5,200 meters above sea level. The landscape will open into a full panorama of red, yellow, green, and blue mineral layers. We will take time to rest, breathe, and enjoy the natural colors. The Red Valley will also appear behind the mountain with intense red tones.

After our visit, we will follow the same trail back to the ATVs. We will enjoy a final ride through the Red Valley as the light changes. Then we will return to Cusipata for a well deserved Andean lunch.

In the late afternoon, we will drive back to Cusco and arrive between 4:00 P.M. and 4:30 P.M. This full day will offer strong colors, high altitude views, and a perfect mix of adventure and Andean landscapes.

What time does the tour begin and why does it start so early?

We begin around 4:00 to 4:30 A.M. We start early to enjoy clear views, avoid crowds, and take advantage of the best morning light.

Is previous ATV experience required for this tour?

No,  the route is simple, and everyone gets a quick practice session before starting the ride.

How difficult is the hike to Rainbow Mountain?

The hike is short but the altitude makes it feel stronger. We take it slow and make plenty of stops.

What altitude will we reach during the experience?

We reach over 5,200 meters. It feels cold and thin, but we move at a comfortable pace.

What type of clothing should participants wear?

Layered clothing works best. A windbreaker, gloves, and a warm hat help a lot because the weather changes quickly.

Are ATVs safe for people without experience?

Yes, completely. The ATVs are modern, stable, and designed for rough Andean terrain.

What is included in the breakfast and lunch provided on the tour?

Both meals are simple Andean dishes. They come with warm drinks and plenty of energy for the day.

Is the entrance ticket to Rainbow Mountain included in the tour price?

No, the entrance ticket costs 30 soles and is paid directly on site.

Is it possible to hire a horse during the hike if someone feels tired?

Yes, horses are available along the trail. You can hire one directly from the local families there.

What happens if the weather changes unexpectedly during the tour?

Weather shifts fast in the Andes, but we adapt easily. We carry gear, check the conditions, and keep the experience safe and enjoyable.

This tour was incredible from beginning to end. The ATV ride added a fun and adventurous touch, and the views along the route were unbelievable. Rainbow Mountain looked stunning, but seeing it after riding through the Andean landscapes made it even better.

A fantastic experience in every way. The colors of Rainbow Mountain were amazing, and the ATV route made the whole trip smoother and more exciting. Red Valley was the highlight for us. Truly one of the best tours we did in Cusco.
